The records we’re making
A few notes on Clarissa Mae’s first EP and Bootie Grove’s me.
I first met Clarissa Mae at a BBC Introducing event in London Bridge. That’s where our work together started. She’s now getting ready to release her first EP through Origins Inconclusive.
I’ve been producing her music, including “love songs”, “shy” and “anyway”. Alongside that, I’ve been mastering Bootie Grove’s records. These are a couple of the projects we’ve been releasing at Origins, and a good place to catch up with what everyone’s making.
Clarissa’s first EP
Clarissa calls these songs a collection of diary entries. The first three singles from the love songs EP move through love, insecurity and growing up, with some very particular memories behind them.
“shy” began with her rearranging childhood photos. Seeing them brought back how quiet she used to be, and the song became a letter to her younger self.
“As a child, I just wanted reassurance that everything will be okay.”

“anyway” is about wanting to be someone’s first choice. Clarissa didn’t set out to write a heartbreak song; she wanted to explore the comparisons and insecurities she would have faced in a first relationship. It sits in that uncertain space between friendship and romance.
She’s told more of the stories behind the songs in her EP feature on Origins. The singles are out now, with the full collection still to come.
Bootie Grove’s me.
Bootie Grove is a producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Toulouse, working across house and jazz-influenced electronic music. His six-track me. EP came out through Origins in July. I worked on the mastering.
He’s already introduced the next project with “Jazz Spot Intro”, the first single from his upcoming Japan Trip EP.
